The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has been recognised by the Yorkshire Learning Providers Awards for its efforts in helping the region develop the green skills for future demands.

The Group’s Skills Bootcamp in the Principles of Carbon Capture and Storage programme was presented with the Best Skills Bootcamp Delivery accolade at the Yorkshire Learning Providers 20th Birthday Awards.

The accolade recognises the Group’s ability to progress individuals into employment through its innovative and flexible programme delivery, with many learners upskilling in their roles at companies such as Drax and Enfinium.

Phil Worth, who recently completed the programme said: “I wanted to upskill in Carbon Capture and Storage and learn more about the subject, so the course seemed the perfect choice for me. The programme is well structured, and the content is very informative, meaning I’ve gained knowledge in all aspects of Carbon Capture and Storage. I plan to put my new skills into practice once my employer Enfinium has built its Carbon Capture and Storage plant.”

As a result of the programme, learners have been able to develop emerging skills and knowledge regarding carbon separation processes including adsorption, heat recovery, heat exchangers, heat pumps and more.

These acquired skills are at the forefront of cutting-edge technology and practice and are likely to be in high demand in line with the UK’s net zero strategy.

Sam Wright, Principal and Chief Executive at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: “Creating innovative programmes which provide our learners with the skills and knowledge needed to embrace the green revolution is extremely important to us, so we’re delighted to have our efforts recognised by the Yorkshire Learning Providers Awards. We worked collaboratively with Drax to develop the programme and source cutting-edge technology which emulated the Carbon Capture process – establishing a realistic and immersive environment for our learners. Thanks to this approach, learners now have the ability to develop their own Carbon Capture projects and plants for their employers or within their own businesses.”

The Bootcamp was formed in partnership with the Department for Education and the York & North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (Y&NY LEP), following a successful pilot project with Drax.

The next Skills Bootcamp will start on Friday 1st March and will be delivered one day a week over a five-week period.

The awards, which were held at York Racecourse on Thursday 25th January 2024, marked the Yorkshire Learning Providers’ 20th anniversary, celebrating the work of its training provider members.

Engaging with more than 1300 employers across the region and nation, the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group works collaboratively with organisations to develop its curriculum offer which is responsive to the needs of the future workforce.
