Course Overview
Plasterers mix and apply plaster to walls and ceilings of buildings to provide a smooth or decorative finish. A plasterer will also produce ornamental plasterwork such as ceiling roses, cornices and columns.This study program is suitable for you if you are looking to progress to a career as a plasterer. The technical knowledge and practical you will gain align to those covered in the apprenticeship standard for solid plastering and dry lining.
This supports transfer in year transfer to the apprenticeship program if you secure employment; alternatively with successful completion it enables you to complete an apprenticeship program in a reduced period of time.
The plastering study programs at the Heart of Yorkshire are sponsored by British Gypsum. This supports students to benefit from site visits and competition.
What You Will Study
On this plastering course you will develop knowledge and skills as listed below:
• Safe use of plastering tools and equipment
• Skills to prepare walls and ceilings prior to applying plaster
• Skills to apply sand/cement and lightweight plaster to various backgrounds
• Skills to create and fix fibrous plasterwork such as dado rails and ceiling centres
• Skills to apply external render and floor screed
• Knowledge around materials and the safe use.
- How You Will Be Assessed
Assessment will be through online examination and practical synoptic assessments.
- Entry Requirements
This course requires 5 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above to include English at Grade 4 or above and Maths at Grade 4 or above. Applicants who apply for this course who do not have this predicted grade profile may be offered at interview a place on the Level 1 Certificate in Plastering study program.
Within the first six weeks on program, you will be assessed in relation to behaviour, attendance and progress. Dependent on these your program of study may change.

On successful completion of this program, you could progress to a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Plastering or a Level 3 Diploma in college.
