Course Overview

This qualification develops the knowledge and skills needed when working in care settings. It contains both mandatory and optional units allowing learners to tailor the qualification to meet their needs, interests, preferred progression paths and the context of their job role.
The qualification covers a wide range of areas which includes units covering:

• Aspects of support

• Specialisms

• Clinical skills or healthcare tasks

• Leadership and management skills
It is aimed at all those who wish to work or are already working in health and social care settings in England.
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement, as they need to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

What You Will Study

The qualification covers a wide range of areas, and both mandatory and optional units. Several of the mandatory units are listed below:


• Promote communication in care settings

• Handling information in adult care

• Promote own continuous personal and professional development

• Person-centred practice, choice and independence

• Understand how to promote personal wellbeing

• Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights in care settings

• Understand duty of care

• Understand how to safeguard individuals

• Infection prevention and control in a care setting

  • Attendance Expectations

    The course will run for one day during the week (9.30-4.30pm), and one twilight evening session online per week (approximately 5.00-.8.00pm)

  • How You Will Be Assessed

    All units are internally assessed. You are required to create a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates achievement from all the learning outcomes and assessment criteria associated with each unit.

    Assessment methods within the portfolio of evidence may include:


    • Case study assessments

    • Presentations (individual/group)

    • Written reports

    • Discussions

    • Poster presentations

    • Assessor observation

  • Entry Requirements

    A successful interview and GCSE Grade 4 or equivalent in English. You should have an interest in the subject, and experience of working in the sector is recommended.

  • Fee Information

    If you are 19 or over and do not already have a Level 3 qualification or higher, you may be able to access this qualification for free with us. If you are not eligible for a free Level 3 course, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available to cover your course fees.

  • Further Study

    Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to the following:

    Employment:

    • Lead adult care worker

    • Senior care support worker

    • Lead personal assistant

    Further education including Level 4 or 5 Diploma in Adult Care, Leadership and Management for Adult Care, or Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England)
