BEng Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

Course Overview
Earn your engineering degree while you work – in just four years!
If you have a level 3 (or HNC or HND), take the next step with a Degree
Apprenticeship at Selby College and build the skills employers are looking for.
You will study a wide variety of engineering disciplines while gaining real
industry experience, helping you progress in your career. Using
industry-standard equipment in our Festo and GUNT laboratories, you’ll apply
theoretical knowledge to practical experiments, gather data, and use top of the
range software such as MATLAB for analysis. You’ll simulate complex electrical
and mechanical systems in Simulink, and deep dive into control systems. You will
build embedded systems in our electronics lab using microcontrollers, study
real-life Distributed Control Systems, and also complete a substantial
work-based project, applying what you’ve learned directly to industry
challenges.
With small class sizes, expert lecturers, and excellent facilities, we offer
a supportive environment where you can build confidence, develop critical
thinking, and grow as a future engineering professional.
Study just one day per week alongside your job—and if you already hold an HNC
or HND, you may be able to complete the programme sooner.

What You Will Study
In this course, you will study a broad range of engineering disciplines
designed to prepare you for a multi-skilled workforce. These include electrical
and mechanical engineering, control systems, and modern industrial
technologies.
You will also explore how data moves through modern industrial systems,
working with technologies such as PLCs, SCADA, and Distributed Control Systems.
You’ll engage with key Industry 4.0 concepts, including big data, simulation,
the Industrial Internet of Things, augmented reality, and autonomous
systems.
Hands-on learning is central to the course, with practical experience in
areas such as thermodynamics and automated manufacturing systems, including
bottle-filling, pick-and-place, and sorting processes. You’ll also develop your
own prototypes using platforms such as Arduino.
One day in college per week.
At Levels 4 and 5, the assessment is 100% written assignment based.
At Level 6, there is a small element of assessment in the form of vivas and
exams.
A Level 3 (or higher) in an engineering discipline.
