FLEX VOTE (Vocational Options, Tasters & Employability)
Course Overview
FLEX VOTE is a fun and supportive course for learners with SEND. It is a positive place where you can grow in confidence and try new things.
You will be supported by friendly staff who want you to succeed. They will help you learn in a way that works best for you.
On the course, you will:
- Take part in enjoyable activities
- Build confidence in yourself
- Practise working as part of a team
- Develop your independence
You will improve your IT, Maths and English skills. You will also try different vocational tasters to discover what you enjoy.
FLEX VOTE helps you prepare for your next step, this could be a Level 1 course, or a work based programme — when you feel ready and supported.
What You Will Study
On this course, you can work towards qualifications that are right for you.
You may take qualifications in:
- English
- Maths
- Digital Skills
You will also complete an Employability Skills qualification at your level. This helps you learn skills for work and everyday life. Personal development is an important part of the course. You will also take part in trips and visits, which are an essential part of learning and help you build confidence, independence, and real-life skills. You will receive Heart of Yorkshire certificates to celebrate your achievements during the course.
You will be assessed in a supportive and positive way.
Your tutors will assess you by:
- Watching you take part in activities
- Looking at the work you complete
- Checking how your skills grow over time
You will also:
- Build a portfolio of work
- Complete practical tasks
- Work towards qualifications at your level
You will get regular feedback to help you understand what you are doing well and what to work on next. Support will always be matched to your needs.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. This course is for learners who:
- Need additional support with learning
- Would benefit from a small, supportive environment
You do not need qualifications to join. We focus on your needs, interests, and next steps.
FLEX VOTE helps you build skills, confidence, and self-belief.
This supports you to move on to a Level 1 vocational course that suits your interests.

Staff will support you to choose the right next step for you and help you prepare for it.
This course can either be studied at Castleford College, Selby College or Wakefield College.
