Level 3 Construction Support Technician Apprenticeship

Course Overview
This course provides learners with the essential skills and knowledge needed to support construction projects across the built environment sector. Construction Contracting Operations Technicians play a key role in helping organisations plan, deliver, and complete projects in areas such as residential, commercial, industrial, refurbishment, and public sector construction.
Learners will gain insight into a wide range of contracting functions, including estimating, planning, buying, site coordination, quantity surveying, and design and build. The course focuses on developing the ability to use digital processes and project management systems that support the progress of real construction sites and office based operations.
The course prepares individuals to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders across both office and site environments. By developing transferable skills and technical understanding, learners will be ready to contribute to construction contracting teams within large organisations or small and medium sized specialist contractors.
What You Will Study
Candidates will complete a Pearson BTEC National Foundation Diploma Construction & Built Environment L3.
Throughout the programme, learners will:
- Work with digital project information and industry standard software
- Learn how to produce, analyse, and manage construction documents
- Support communication between professional teams, subcontractors, and clients
- Understand how construction activities fit together across the lifecycle of a project
- Apply safe working practices and recognise site hazards in line with legislation
- Build confidence in identifying and resolving issues using their own initiative

This is a summary of the key things that you – the apprentice and your employer need to know about your end-point assessment (EPA).
An EPA is an assessment at the end of your apprenticeship. It will assess you against the knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) in the occupational standard. Your training will cover the KSBs. The EPA is your opportunity to show an independent assessor how well you can carry out the occupation you have been trained for.
Your employer will liaise with the college and choose an end-point assessment organisation (EPAO) to deliver your EPA. The EPA period is typically 3 months.
Initially you will enter EPA gateway, the requirements for this apprenticeship standard are
- achieved English and mathematics qualifications in line with the napprenticeship standard
- submit a technical report project with question and answer session, the project's title and scope must be agreed with the EPAO and a project summary submitted
- submit a portfolio of evidence developed over the duration of your apprenticeship, that will be used to support the professional interview.
The project report will be based on a given title and be 3000 words. You will have 4 weeks to prepare this. You will then undertake a 45 minute question and answer session, where at least 5 questions will be asked.
On successful completion of this, you will take a 60 minute interview with an independent assessor who will ask a minimum of 8 questions around your portfolio of evidence.
The overall grades available for this apprenticeship are:
- fail
- pass
- distinction
When you pass the EPA, you will be awarded your apprenticeship certificate.
You will need to be employed in a relevant job prior to enrolment.
Candidates ideally require a minimum of 5 number GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (or equivalent) to include English, Maths and Science.
