Course Overview

V levels will be new Level 3 qualifications that offer a vocational pathway for students who want to explore different sectors before deciding where to specialise.

This new pathway will replace the wide range of qualifications that are not A or T levels and enable students to study a range of areas.

Each V Level will be equivalent in size to one A level. This means students will be able to combine V Levels with A levels, creating a programme that reflects their interests and career ambitions.

This brand new qualification will have a strong focus on careers and occupational standards.

Throughout the course, you will develop an understanding of how digital systems work and how data is used in modern organisations. Lessons combine theory with practical application, allowing you to explore computing systems, data management and digital technologies in real-world contexts.

You will take part in hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks and collaborative projects. Lessons will include practical work using digital tools, enabling students to build confidence in analysing, designing and implementing digital solutions.

What You Will Study

The course will include:

  • Understanding the components and operation of digital systems.
  • Exploring how data is collected, stored and used effectively.
  • Analysing data to support decision-making.
  • Learning about data security protocols and cybersecurity, ethical issues and data protection.
  • Developing problem-solving and computational thinking skills.
  • Using digital tools and software to create and manage systems.

Understanding the role of technology in business and society. As part of the programme, you will also develop a range of transferrable skills that will be essential when you progress into work or university –

  • Critical, analytical and logical thinking
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Communication
  • Collaboration

The Digital Systems and Data V level qualification is graded A*-E, in line with A levels, and is ideal for students who prefer a balance of examinations (40%) with coursework, projects or controlled assessments (60%).

5 GCSEs at Grade 5-9, including English Language and Maths at Grade 4 or above

Whether you want to follow a traditional university route or pursue an industry-specific career, a V Level combined with other Level 3 qualifications like A levels or AAQs will equip you with the necessary skills and knowledge to do so.

This V Level aims to encourage motivation and interest in pursuing careers and further study related to digital systems and practices. The combination of theory and practice should secure access to a wide range of higher-level study and training across multiple sectors, including those related to computing, information technology, data science and related digital disciplines.

I got lots of support from my tutors, especially in form groups, as well as in my one-to-one meetings.
