Case Study
Dina
"I have been attending my work placement at CR Reynolds for 2 days per week as part of my T Level in Surveying, Designing and Planning for Construction.
I began my placement in the office learning about the company's current projects, their progress and deadlines. I was then taught more about safety on site, given toolbox talks and learned about topics such as how to respond to emergencies and the importance of keeping projects on track. I have gained a really clear understanding of how careful planning prevents delays and keeps everyone safe.
I've really enjoyed being out on site, and I've learned how to scope work areas and use a total station and prism to take levels, offsets and retro points accurately. I learned why precision matters and how small errors can cause problems in the long run - this is a skill I am eager to keep developing.
Ive also seen how kerbs and concrete are cut and laid safely, what different line mark symbols mean and what they represent, different types of kerbs, tactiles, and crossings and how traffic management protects the public and team. Seeing how every role is connected has shown me how a site runs efficiently as one team.
This placement has confirmed construction is the career I want. I've gained valuable practical skills in surveying, safety, and teamwork, and I am excited to keep learning."
