"I chose to study the Level 6 BA in Art and Design at Selby College because I liked the small class sizes that you wouldn’t get at a bigger university. I was able to form closer relationships with the other students in my class and have more 1-1 time with my tutors, who always go out of the way to help and push you in the right direction when you feel lost.

The course gave me the freedom to try different things and experiment with art forms. I was a drawer when I first started the course, but I was able to try photography at college. Now I am very comfortable with digital and film photography and with using the dark room, and I now do freelance work in gig photography.

I’m happy to have won the Best Written Dissertation at the Selby Student Awards, for my work on Barthes’ Theory of the Punctum – which I researched in depth and tied into my own final piece.

We went on a HE course trip to Paris this year which I really enjoyed; it is great that as a Higher Education student you are allowed the freedom to choose what you’re most interested in and what to see during the trip.

I have various options for what to do after completing my course. I could look for jobs in creative field and continue with freelance gig photography, and I may also get my PGCE qualification and look into technician or teaching roles."
