"I’ve worked at Drax Power Station for the last 15 years. In that time, I’ve completed my HND and HNC within Selby College, and now I’m studying my Bachelors of Engineering.

One of the reasons I decided to take up this degree was to upskill myself for any future roles within the power industry.

There are many areas of the degree at Selby College which are relevant to my work, including thermodynamics, which is key to the processes at Drax Power Station. The project work we do at college also goes hand in hand with typical daily activities at work.

As a mature student, working with lecturers like Sam and Chris really helps because they understand my needs and provide a lot of support.

After this course, I’d like to join an institution such as IMechE and become a chartered engineer, and look into doing a master’s degree."
