Results Day Case Study: Ben Nelson – From Selby High to Oxford University
Ben Nelson, a former Selby High School student, achieved an outstanding set of results at Selby College, gaining A* grades in Maths, Further Maths, Biology and Chemistry.
This September, Ben will take the next step in his academic journey, studying Chemistry at Oxford University. Whilst he’s unsure of his ultimate career path, he’s excited to explore the opportunities university will open up for him.
Reflecting on his time at Selby College, Ben highlights the friendly classroom environment and the chance to make new friends as key parts of his experience. He also valued the personalised tutor support, which he says was “tailored to each student.”
Ben chose his A Levels knowing they would be challenging, but driven by his passion for science and a desire to push himself. Alongside his studies, he took part in the Chemistry and Biology Olympiads, further stretching his skills.
When asked for advice to future students, Ben’s message is clear:
“Push yourself! You can achieve great things!”
