A congregation of more than 500 gathered at QEGS last Saturday to see students from Wakefield College receive higher level qualifications at the annual Graduation Ceremony. This year’s guest speaker, Amy Garcia, former student and TV news presenter, praised the hard work and commitment of both students and tutors. Speaking to the congregation Amy said, “My sincerest congratulations to each and every one of you. Graduation Ceremonies are the pinnacle of a student’s academic achievements and I am delighted to be here with you today to share in your success.” Amy recounted her time as a Performing Arts student at the College’s Thornes Park Campus with fondness and highlighted her personal journey of how she went on to become a regional broadcast journalist working for the likes of ITV and the BBC. Wakefield College Principal, Sam Wright, said, “Our Graduation Ceremony is a significant occasion, not just for the College, but for the community of the Wakefield District. It is great to see so many friends and family members all together celebrating the achievements of our Higher Education students. We are all justifiably proud of every single one of our students who have invested considerable time and effort in their studies - well done to everyone.” This year in excess of 350 students achieved a Higher Education qualification at Wakefield College including Higher National Diplomas, Higher National Certificates, Foundation Degrees and Degrees in a wide variety of areas including Education, Computing, Personnel, Childhood Studies, Care, Sports Studies, Music, Engineering, Business & Management, Web Design, Theatre, Marketing, Art & Design and Accounting.
