Digital Industries Students Take On Live Industry Brief
7 July 2026
This year, Level 3 Creative Practice (Digital Design & Web Development) students at Wakefield College were given the opportunity to tackle a live commercial design brief by Hey Service Group.
Hey Service Group, who are a UK-based specialist cleaning and fire safety company, gave students the task of designing a website prototype which needed to include several important features. Throughout the project, students followed a professional design process, eventually presenting their ideas to the client. This provided an invaluable experience into how to work with a real business, helping students to develop the technical, creative and professional skills needed for careers in the digital and creative industries.
Alongside this, Hey Service Group very kindly gave a £1,000 contribution towards the Level 3 Creative Practice (Digital Design & Web Development) course, directly benefitting the development of future students.

An example of the work undertaken by students.
Cyras, a Level 3 Creative Practice (Digital Design & Web Development) student, said: “Working with a real client for the first time was a new experience, but it turned out to be incredibly rewarding. It gave me valuable insight into collaborating directly with clients and helped prepare me for entering the industry.”
John, another Level 3 Creative Practice (Digital Design & Web Development) student who was the recipient of a £50 voucher for his outstanding website, said: “I'm so grateful that my work has been recognised. A huge thank you to my tutor, Nick, for all of his support, guidance, and encouragement in helping me develop and elevate my ideas. I'd also like to thank Hey Service for their technical insight and support throughout the project.”
Nick Welbourn, Lecturer in Digital Industries at Wakefield College, a part of the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: “This project has been a fantastic opportunity. Every student understood the brief and delivered creative, well-considered concepts to a highly professional standard. I’m incredibly proud to have supported them throughout their creative journey, and we are grateful to Hey Service for championing our students from the outset. Partnerships like this are invaluable in helping bridge the gap between education and industry, and we look forward to creating more opportunities like this in the future.”
