New Routes to Accounting and Bookkeeping Qualifications at the Group

From September, residents in West and North Yorkshire will be able to study accounting and bookkeeping qualifications from the comfort of their own homes with the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group.

To meet the high demand of the accounting sector in the Selby and Wakefield districts, a suite of 12 AAT qualifications in accounting and bookkeeping will be available to study this Autumn, with some free of charge for residents who meet the funding criteria.

Spanning from Level 2 to Level 4, the courses are suitable for those wanting to pursue accounting and bookkeeping as a career or who already work in the industry and want to level-up their qualifications.

Some courses will have the option of blended learning which consists of studying through an online portal, as well as scheduled live sessions on Microsoft Teams, allowing learners flexibility around other commitments such as childcare and employment.

Individuals will be required to supply their age, previous qualifications and income to assess whether they are eligible for funding for their course of interest. Applications for the courses can be completed online.

Why study accounting and bookkeeping?
According to the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, West Yorkshire’s accountancy and legal services sector is the second largest outside of London, worth £2 billion a year.

AAT accredited qualifications are recognised by the industry and provide a gateway into the sector for those just beginning their careers or who are looking to switch careers.

The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, which includes Castleford College, Selby College and Wakefield College and spans across both West and North Yorkshire, offers a rich selection of training and development programmes in many professional occupations to support employers to upskill their workforce and enhance employees’ personal development.

Learners can gain other official accreditations through the Group’s programmes including in Human Resources and Learning and Development (CIPD), Marketing (CMI) and Leadership and Management (ILM).
