Selby College Celebrates Outstanding Class of 2026 Results

Students at Selby College are celebrating another year of exceptional results, with the Class of 2026 achieving an overall pass rate of 98% across all programmes.

Over a third of students (35.3%) attained top grades of A*, A or B, enabling them to progress to some of the UK's most prestigious universities, including the University of Cambridge, the University of York and Newcastle University.

The College’s A Level provision secured a 97% pass rate, with 10 of its A Level programmes securing a 100% pass rate.

Amongst those celebrating were twins Nancie Broadhead and Molly Broadhead, who have secured places at their dream universities.

Following her passion for Maths and after achieving A*s in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and History, Nancie is now going on to study Maths at the University of Cambridge.

Nancie said: “I’m over the moon with my results and to be pursuing my passion for Maths at the University of Cambridge – it’s all I’ve ever wanted. My tutors have supported me every step of the way, constantly encouraging me to achieve my best. The College also went above and beyond to help me prepare for my Sixth Term Examination Papers (STEP), which played a key role in helping me secure a place at my dream university.”

Molly is progressing to study Chemistry at Newcastle University after achieving As in Biology and Chemistry and a C in English Language.

Molly said: “I was nervous about collecting my results, but it’s incredibly rewarding to see my hard work pay off. Nancie and I have never been apart since birth, so whilst I’m really excited to start university, it will feel strange being away from my twin. Studying for my A Levels has taught me resilience and how to push myself, whilst also helping me develop valuable skills that I’ll take forward into university, such as working collaboratively and gaining practical experience in laboratory settings.”

Ellis Ward, who received multiple awards at the College’s recent Engineering Awards, is set to begin an Electrical Engineering apprenticeship with SEW Eurodrive after achieving a Distinction in his Level 3 Engineering programme.

Ellis said: “Engineering is a really exciting industry to be going into, and my tutors have prepared me well for the next step. Their experience and support have given me the confidence to start my apprenticeship and work towards becoming an Electrical Engineer.”

Students celebrated their results alongside family and friends, course tutors and classmates. Member of Parliament for Selby, Keir Mather, also joined the celebrations, congratulating students on their achievements and hearing about their plans for the future.

Sam Wright, Principal and Chief Executive at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: "Achieving another strong set of results across our A Level and technical and vocational programmes is a fantastic achievement. We are particularly proud of the high grades secured by so many of our learners, reflecting their hard work, dedication and ambition, as well as the commitment of our staff, who go above and beyond to support every learner. We are delighted to see so many students progressing to university, employment and further study, and we look forward to seeing what they achieve next."

Places at Selby College are still available across a wide range of course areas for school leavers including A Levels, T Levels, Vocational courses and Apprenticeships.

Level 3 graduates can also progress to higher-level study at the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, which offers flexible and affordable full- and part-time programmes.

This year’s successful results day follows the news that the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, consisting of Castleford College, Selby College and Wakefield College, has ranked first in Yorkshire & the Humber for student achievement amongst General Further Education Colleges, also securing fifth place nationally.

This highly impressive result follows a strong performance across the Group’s 16–18 provision, with the latest Department for Education National Achievement Rate Tables (NARTs) for 2024/2025 confirming the Group as the region’s highest-performing FE college for learners aged under 19.
