Group of sports students with their awards

Selby College marked the end of the academic year with a number of award ceremonies, celebrating its students’ achievements.

Sport & Public Services, Construction, Care & Early Years and Project SEARCH students were acknowledged in a series of celebration events where they received awards for their outstanding contributions at College over the past year.

Sport & Public Services tutors hosted an outdoor awards event, where staff and students enjoyed pizza, crepes and a year-in-review video they had created.

Students from both subjects were then presented with a range of awards including ‘Academic Excellence’, ‘Personality of the Year’ and ‘Team of the Year’.

Care & Early Years and Health & Social Care students were also recognised with ‘Student of the Year’, ‘Success Against Adversity’ and ‘Creativity and Innovation’ awards as part of a celebration event attended by their loved ones.

Carla Cantrell, Head of Care & Early Years, said: “It has been a pleasure to see our students flourish over the past year and to celebrate their achievements as part of our annual awards ceremony. A lot of students are progressing onto further study with us, which is something we strive for and is a testament to the success of our department. I’m also looking forward to seeing what our students going to achieve beyond the college, with some pursuing careers or further study at university or at our University Centre.”

The Construction Department held its celebrations at Castleford College, bringing together students from across the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. Construction employers including, I&G, Dewalt and CEF, were also in attendance – sponsoring the awards and providing prizes such as tool bags and vouchers.

DFN Project SEARCH interns who carried out their placements at Siemens Mobility also celebrated a significant milestone after being the first cohort to graduate from the programme.

The interns were presented with a range of awards as part of a special graduation ceremony held at Howden Shire Hall, acknowledging all their hard work on their internships.

Sam Wright, Prinicpal and Chief Executive at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said: “We always look forward to celebrating our students and their achievements at our annual award ceremonies. It’s incredibly inspiring to see our students progress throughout the year – whether that’s overcoming barriers, learning something new or showing enthusiasm and commitment to their studies. I hope all our students are proud of themselves and their achievements, as I know we are at the Group.”
