Students from Selby College held a 24-hour static cycle challenge to raise funds for The Little Princess Trust, in support of former student Georgia Dayes who has been diagnosed with Leukaemia.
With two static bikes running non-stop, the students took turns cycling in solidarity with Georgia. The cyclethon aimed to raise awareness and funds for the charity, with radio presenter at York Mix, Victoria Charles, broadcasting live on air from the College to encourage the local community to support the fundraiser.
Determined to turn her diagnosis into something positive before starting chemotherapy, Georgia has donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust - helping to raise vital funds to support others going through similar experiences.
Ellie Green, Sport & Public Services Lecturer from Selby College, said:
“Our students showed incredible determination and compassion in organising this 24-hour cyclethon. Georgia’s courage has inspired us all, and this event was their way of showing her she’s not facing this alone. We’re incredibly proud to support her and The Little Princess Trust and its life-changing work.”
So far, Georgia has helped to raise £8,000 for The Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.
Georgia Dayes after braving the shave
Georgia said:
"I want to thank everyone who supported me, including my former classmates and tutors at Selby College. I braved the shave earlier than planned as my hair started falling out quickly. My hair will be turned into a wig for someone in need, and thanks to all the donations, we can fund more wigs for children undergoing treatment. I'm so grateful for all the love and support and thrilled that we've raised a significant amount for The Little Princess Trust."
