BA (Hons) Art & Design - Arts Practice (Top-up) student Burga Karaagac with his artwork

Higher Education Art, Design & Media students from Selby College will proudly showcase their creative talents in a special exhibition at Selby Town Hall.

Visitors will also encounter large-scale digital illustrations, oil paintings, photography and conceptual works that challenge viewers to question the artist’s intentions.

Many of the exhibiting students began their artistic journeys at Selby College through the Level 3 Art programmes and chose to continue their studies at the College, progressing to complete their BA (Hons) Top-Up year.

During their final year, they have deepened their individual studio practices, producing thought-provoking and diverse works.

Student Harry Rollitt, said:

“I’ve always seen photography as a way of transforming memories into art – capturing moments that might otherwise fade and turning them into something meaningful. It started as a personal passion and has now developed into a professional role at Photograph My Product, where I get to work with a range of brands and models on projects. My lecturers have been incredibly supportive and flexible, even giving me day release so that I can balance my creative work with my professional development.”

Elaine Whitehead, Curriculum Development Manager, Art, Design and Media at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said:

Thanks to the small group sizes, our students benefit from a supportive environment that encourages experimentation across photography, graphics, fine art and sculpture. This has enabled them to deepen their individual studio practices, producing thought-provoking and diverse works whilst allowing them to enhance their skills with digital 3D modelling and interactive art forms - pushing the boundaries of traditional practices.”

This comes as the department hosts its End-of-Year Exhibition at the College, which proudly displays pieces from its further education and higher education students.

Featuring architectural designs, contemporary pieces, light and video installations, 3D sculptures and sustainable artwork, the exhibition celebrates the breadth of its students’ creativity.
