Coinciding with World Mental Health Day on Saturday 10th October, the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group and its Colleges are extending the TalkCampus online mental health service to all its students.

Talk Campus is a 24/7 peer support for student wellbeing, giving students access to counselling and helpline services online for free. Students can access the service straight from their phones in times of need.

Whilst the Colleges already have support services in place such as a counselling service and Wellbeing Team, students continue to seek help outside of college hours and term time, highlighting the need for a separate 24-hour service to work alongside the Colleges’ student support teams.

Leigh Allsopp, Director of Student Support and Wakefield College,
said: “The mental health and wellbeing needs of our students continue to increase in both prevalence and complexity. As students navigate a range of personal, social and academic challenges, many seek support at the point of need, often outside of traditional service availability. The TalkCampus platform solves this issue and allows our students to seek help outside of college, whenever they may need it.”

"The platform offers safe, peer-supported, 24/7 access to wellbeing support, empowering students to engage in self-care, seek help at the earliest opportunity and connect with support when it is most relevant to them. This strengthens our ability to provide a responsive and inclusive wellbeing community that extends beyond the physical campus and traditional hours of operation.”

Talk Campus offers a range of confidential support tools for students including mood tracking and wellbeing check-ins, mental health guides and resources, a peer support community and more.

To access Talk Campus, students just need to download the app onto their devices and log in using their college email address.

Further supporting World Mental Health Day, staff and students at the three Colleges have taken part in Hello Yellow Day organised by Young Minds – opting to wear yellow on Friday 9th October to raise awareness of children’s mental health.
