Is it really free? Let’s find out.

Fees can be complicated, however, some of our courses could be FREE* to you depending on your circumstances. Fee concessions and the fee rate payable may depend on your age, previous qualifications, the course you want to study and your residency status in the UK.

This means that in many cases, students don’t have to pay fees or can benefit from reduced fees due to their personal or financial situation.

For some courses, you may be required to pay for course materials and/or additional individual fees to Examination Awarding Body organisations. You will be advised of these when you enrol.

Aged 19 or over and don’t hold a Level 3 qualification? Or, earning under the National Living Wage or unemployed? We have a range of courses in areas including Accounting, Construction, Early Years, Engineering, Health & Social Care, Mental Health and Welding.

These courses are fully funded by the UK Government if you are over 19 years old, have been living in the UK for three years or more, live in West Yorkshire or North Yorkshire or are not from a devolved area. Contact us to confirm your eligibility.

Some courses may be free based on location, level and prior qualifications. These include Maths & English GCSEs and Skills for Life qualifications.

If you are aged 19+ and studying for a Level 3 or higher-level course, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help with the costs of your course. Visit the Advanced Learner Loans fee and money matters page for more information.

* Subject to eligibility. Contact us for further details.

Lots of our students do not pay fees or have reduced fees, based on personal and financial circumstances.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Many of our adult learners return to education after several years, and sometimes even decades, away from studying. Our courses are designed to support adults at every stage of their learning journey.

You'll be taught by experienced tutors who understand the challenges of returning to education, and you'll receive guidance and support throughout your course. You'll also be learning alongside other adults who may be in a similar position.

Most learners find that while it can take a little time to get back into the habit of studying, their confidence grows quickly. If you're motivated to learn, we're here to help you succeed.

Not necessarily. Entry requirements vary depending on the course, and many adult learning courses do not require formal qualifications to get started.

If a course does have specific entry requirements, these will be clearly explained before you apply. We can also help you find a course that matches your current skills, experience, and goals.

If you're looking to improve your qualifications, we offer courses that can help you gain or work towards GCSE-equivalent and GCSE qualifications in subjects such as English and maths.

Students at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group receive excellent levels of support from our dedicated and specialised Additional Support teams who can help with learning workshops, study skills, assistive technology and adaptation needs.

We strongly urge you to disclose any disability or learning difficulty you may have before enrolment so that we can make reasonable adjustments to support you with your studies and ensure that these are in place before you start College.

We have specialist study coaches with expertise in supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities such as:

  • Autistic Spectrum Disorders
  • ADHD
  • Medical conditions
  • Visual impairment
  • Dyslexia
  • Dyspraxia
  • Dyscalculia
  • Deaf or hard of hearing
  • Moderate or severe learning difficulties
  • Mobility difficulties

There is access to speech and language therapists, pastoral support and specialist support as required and/or outlined in the Education Health and Care Plan.

The Additional Learning Support Service also aids learners with learning workshops, study skills, assistive technology and adaptation needs. Support may be in the form of learning support staff or specialist learning support staff (in or out of class), assistive technology or adjustments by your curriculum tutors.

Please telephone 01924 789120 (V), 01924 385349 (T) or email additionalsupportenquiries@heartofyorkshire.ac.uk

Counselling
Life can be very challenging and sometimes it can feel too much to cope alone. Counselling can offer you a safe and confidential space to be heard – an opportunity to talk to a caring, non-judgemental professional who will help you to explore the causes of your distress and find ways to move forward. Counselling can be face-to-face in College, online via Teams or over the phone - whichever is easiest for you.

If you feel that counselling might be helpful for you, please email counselling@heartofyorkshire.ac.uk. The College counsellor will invite you for an initial appointment to talk about your needs. Counselling is free and available to all students at College during term-time.

TalkCampus
As an adult learner, you will have access to TalkCampus which is a free online, 24/7 mental health support platform. It provides a global community of students who support each other through their daily struggles, all within a clinically safeguarded environment.

The platform is continuously moderated by trained peer supporters, meaning it’s a safe and anonymous place where you can talk confidentially and get the support they need.

Student Wellbeing Officers
If you need support at College, feel overwhelmed or need help due to problems in or outside of College, whatever the reason, our Student Wellbeing Officers are here to help.

Our team work closely with students and other services both in and outside of College. The team can support via one-to-one meetings, small groups, drop-ins and through other wellbeing activities.

Quiet Contemplation
A room for quiet contemplation and personal reflection is available for students at all three of our Colleges. Please ask at the reception desk for the room number.

Browse through our courses using our ‘Course Explorer’. If you’re unsure which course to apply for, call our Course Information Team on 01924 789111 or email courseinfo@heartofyorkshire.ac.uk and they will be able to advise you on suitable options and send further information.

Choose the course(s) you want to apply for and click ‘APPLY ONLINE’ on the course page. You will be asked to set up a login so you can access your application after submitting it. You’ll then go directly to the application page where you can fill out the online application form.
