This course has been designed to increase your knowledge and understanding of different areas of the diagnosis of Dementia, supporting and caring for Dementia patients: The causes of Dementia The different types of Dementia How Dementia is diagnosed and other conditions associated with Dementia How a person-centred approach can be used to support individuals with Dementia

What You Will Study

This course is made up of 7 units:

• Principles of understanding dementia  

• Understand the use of person-centred approaches to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia 

• Principles of communication and interaction in dementia care and support    

• Principles of supporting positive interaction, occupation and activity in dementia care    

• Principles of understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care and support    

• Understand how individuals with dementia can be supported to exercise rights and choices   

• Principles of the administration of medication to individuals with dementia
  • Attendance Expectations

    There are no lessons to attend, though we would expect you to undertake 5-10 hours of learning a week.

  • How You Will Be Assessed

    You will be assessed through a range of assessment methods, including short answer questions and longer essay style questions.
