Course Overview

This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and practical skills needed for working in the electrotechnical industry, which will prepare you to enter an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme
This qualification is aimed at progressing students who are not yet employed in the electrotechnical industry but wish to learn the skills needed to progress further and help them embark on an electrotechnical apprenticeship programme.

What You Will Study

The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector. You will cover compulsory aspects such as:

• Working safely and effectively

• Design, construct, test and commission electrical systems

• Methods of supervision

• Electrical science and principles

• Regulations and law

• Diagnose and repair electrical faults.
  • How You Will Be Assessed

    There are two assessment components completed typically between March and May.

    • Externally set exam - the exam is externally set and externally marked and will be paper-based only. It is designed to assess depth and breadth of understanding across content in the qualification at the end of the period of learning, using a range of question types.

    • Synoptic assignment - the synoptic assignment is externally set, internally marked and externally moderated. The assignment requires you to identify and use effectively in an integrated way an appropriate selection of skills, techniques, concepts, theories, and knowledge from across the content area.

  • Entry Requirements

    This course requires 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above to include English at Grade 4 or above and Maths at Grade 4 or above.
    Level 2 Diploma/Technical Certificate Electrical Installation is also required.

    Within the first six weeks on program, you will be assessed in relation to behaviour, attendance and progress. Dependent on these your program of study may change.

  • Further Study

    Electrotechnical apprenticeship – with recognition for prior learning this can be completed within 18 to 24 months.
