Course Overview

With more than two million people employed in the Travel and Tourism sector, there are plenty of opportunities for you to pursue a rewarding career in the industry, whether within the UK or internationally. Studying Travel and Tourism at Wakefield College will equip you with the essential knowledge and qualifications needed to launch your career in this exciting field. Every year, we offer a range of day trips and an annual residential trip, giving you the chance to gain valuable industry insights. Your course will combine a variety of learning methods, including classes, lectures, seminars, workshops, presentations, and independent research. You’ll have access to digital resources to stay up-to-date with the latest travel and tourism news, and you’ll also have classroom sessions that prepare you for a career in the industry. You'll develop practical skills using the latest travel industry directories and manuals. Our strong connections with companies like Fly Me, Jet2 Holidays, Travel Counsellors, and the Wakefield Tourism Department provide real-life learning opportunities. Please note: Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded a Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies.

  • How You Will Be Assessed

    Assessment Methods

    Assessments will be diverse, providing you with multiple opportunities to showcase your knowledge and skills. You may be assessed through practical tasks, short-answer questions, research assignments, written reports, creating visual displays such as leaflets, and role-play observations. Students may also conduct market research, case studies, and investigations, presenting their findings in various formats such as reports, brochures, and presentations—similar to those encountered in real-world industry settings. Some units at all levels may include online assessments.

  • Further Study

    Progression Opportunities

    You can further enhance your CV by obtaining additional qualifications related to the Travel and Tourism industry, such as Basic First Aid or Essential Food Hygiene. Some students may also choose to learn a new foreign language or improve upon one they have already studied. Additionally, many students progress onto our level 2 Travel and Tourism or Cabin Crew.
