The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has officially launched its Adult Learning Course Guide 2025, empowering adults across the region in upskilling, retraining or do something fun.
With a strong focus on sustainability and accessibility, the guide features a wider range of online, blended and green skills courses designed to fit around busy lives, whilst helping drive the region’s progress toward a greener economy.
Learners aged 19+ can now choose from courses in priority areas such as Carbon Capture & Storage, Construction, Electric & Hybrid Vehicles, and Heat Recovery & Transfer. These programmes support the UK’s net zero ambitions whilst equipping adults with high-demand skills in emerging industries.
Toby Evans, a student on the Heat Recovery & Transfer course, shared:
“Understanding how much energy we use and could be saving was important to my employer, Lambsons Building Products, so this programme was a perfect solution. The course is well delivered, and I’ve really enjoyed expanding my knowledge and meeting new people. I’d recommend it to any individual or business becoming more energy conscious.”

To reduce travel costs and carbon emissions, the Group has significantly expanded its Online Learning offer. From Mental Health First Aid to Digital Marketing, Counselling Skills and Health & Nutrition, these fully online courses make learning more flexible and accessible - particularly for adults balancing work or family commitments.
For those aspiring to study at university but lack formal qualifications, the Group provides a wide range of Access to Higher Education programmes in Business, Creative Industries, Engineering, Healthcare, Music, Science and Social Sciences.
Available as online or face-to-face, many of its one-year Access courses are either free or the tuition fee cost is ‘written off’ if you complete a degree, meaning you never have to pay anything back.
The Group also offers degree-level programmes awarded by top UK universities, including qualifications in Teacher Training, Sport, Film, Media & Television and Computing.
In September 2025, Selby College will launch a brand-new BEng Engineering (Top-Up) degree, providing a direct path to IEng registration through the Engineering Council. The programme can be funded by employers as a part-time course or through a higher apprenticeship, making it the perfect option for those who have completed a HNC/HND in Engineering to attain a full degree.
For learners interested in exploring their passions further, the Group also delivers a wide range of short courses, including Dog Grooming, Floristry, Music Production, Photography, Printmaking and more.
Laurent Berges, Director of Adult Skills at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group, said:
"Adult learning is about opening new doors, building confidence, and creating real opportunities for growth. Whether you’re retraining for a new career, aiming for a promotion, or just doing something for yourself, our flexible learning options help turn ambition into action. For many adults, it’s the first step toward real change. And with Advanced Learner Loans, free course options, and mental health support through services like TalkCampus, we make sure our learners are supported every step of the way."
All part-time and short courses are delivered at the Group’s three campuses in Castleford, Selby and Wakefield. Adults are invited to explore each College and speak directly with tutors at upcoming Open Events:
- Saturday 14th June 2025, 10am–12pm – Wakefield College
- Saturday 14th June 2025, 10am–12pm – Castleford College
- Wednesday 18th June 2025, 5pm–7pm – Selby College
