Selby College is set to open a brand-new 3G sports pitch in January 2026, enabling students, local clubs and community groups to train on state-of-the-art facilities all year round.
The project has been made possible thanks to a £1.2 million grant from the Premier League, The FA and Government’s Football Foundation which aims to transform grassroots sports provision across the country.
The new all-weather pitch will support a range of activities including football, rugby (training only) and general fitness training. It will also be available for hire during evenings and weekends, creating more opportunities for local clubs and community groups to benefit.
James Pennington, Local College Director at Selby College, said: “The installation of our next-generation 3G pitch is a fantastic development for both our students and the wider community. Whilst there may be some initial disruption during construction, we’re confident local residents will agree that this is an exciting opportunity for our town – providing a state-of-the-art training facility that can be used all year round, whatever the weather. This investment will support grassroots clubs and help drive sports development in the area.”
Robert Sullivan, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: “The Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country. Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities. This grant award to Selby College towards developing their 3G pitch is fantastic news for the local community and will help give more people access to a great place to play.”
Further information about the exciting 3G pitch development will be available at Selby College’s upcoming Open Event on Saturday 18th October, from 10am to 12pm.
